Appian Cycle Tour With Lunch
Bike across the Appian Way in Rome
On this exciting bike tour, experience the beauty of the Appian Way as you leave the center of the city and its crowds behind. Cycle along this ancient Roman road and enjoy a visit to the catacombs of St. Callisto.
The Appian Way has been closed to traffic for 20 years, so you will not have to worry about cars as you ride to your first stop, the Aurelian Walls. The walls are a line of city walls built between 271 AD and 275 AD and enclose the seven hills of Rome. Continue on to tour the Gate of St. Sebastian, with its base of tall marble block supporting crenelated towers. The gate is only a short ride away from your next stop, the Catacombs of St. Callisto. Tour the area, known as the earliest site of Christianity in Rome. It was used for multiple purposes, including protection, as well as burying the dead. These catacombs once held over 500,000 bodies. The Catacomb entrance fee is not included.
The Appian Way is home to many tombs and wealthy residences. As you ride through the area, cycle by the tomb of Cecilia Metella, which has been turned into a fortress, and by Circus of Massenzio, a funerary complex created by the emperor Maxentius. Next, tour the Park of the Aqueducts. This park is home to seven aqueducts, including Marcio, Anio Novus, Tepula, Mariana, Claudio, Iulia and Felice. Early architectural wonders, the aqueducts are located on natural hills and were used to bring water into the city.
Following your Roman aqueduct tour, visit Torre del Fiscale. This area once controlled the farming in the area and now has a little restaurant and coffee bar open to the public. Your next stop will be at the Spring of Santa Egeria, where it is a tradition to fill your bottles up with mineral water. This spring is one of Rome's natural springs and is still used by locals today for its healthy properties. Here you will enjoy a delicious picnic lunch, including local delicacies such as cheese, wine, olives, fruit, bread, cured ham, and mineral water. On your journey back to the Colosseum, ride through the scenic Cafarella Valley. Not only is this Rome bike tour incredibly interesting, but it'll give you quite the workout.
Please Note: This Rome tour does not include the entrance fee to the Catacombs (approximately 8 EUR for adults; 6 EUR for children under 16). This tour takes place in Rome. Guests on ships docking in Civitavecchia will need to make their own way to Rome from Civitavecchia (approximately 50 miles away) at their own expense. There is train service from nearby train stations, and the average trip takes approximately 90 minutes each way. Your cruise ship may offer a shuttle to a nearby station.

To accomplish this, we have compiled an exceptional array of tours delivered by local experts with decades of experience serving travelers and delivering excellent tours. Our owners and management team are comprised of seasoned travel industry executives who leverage their considerable experience to deliver memories of a lifetime.
We are experts in providing exceptional shore excursions. We understand that in today's fast paced world, vacations have become an increasingly important way to relax, reconnect with family and friends, and experience new and interesting places. With this in mind, we provide the highest quality tours by performing extensive research, and detailed reviews. While other companies also offer excursions, we strongly believe our expertise and approach set us apart. The large cruise lines sell shore excursions - typically in very large groups visiting high traffic sites. We focus on smaller groups visiting more interesting and authentic locations using more personalized local operators. While the cruise lines are experts in delivering cruises, we are experts in delivering shore excursions.
We believe quality service is not only highly valued by customers, but ultimately leads to better experiences and higher satisfaction. Unlike the cruise lines and other tour companies that rely almost entirely on websites, we encourage customers to call us. We want to invest our time answering your questions, providing input, and selecting the excursions that best meet your needs.
Our goal is to provide customers a wide array of exciting, appealing, and enriching tours. For those customers who prefer to travel in smaller groups with more personalized service, we offer a wide variety of small group tours around the world. These tours generally range in size from 2-12 people compared to larger tours which can number up to 50 people. While exploring the destinations and ports on this website, feel free to search for these "Small Group Tours". For those customers interested in private tours, we offer many outstanding excursions that allow you to travel with your party alone and, in many cases, to fully customize your tour. Search for "Private Tours" if you are interested in this experience. Our "Scenic" tours provide up close and personal access to some of the most spectacular natural environments on Earth from majestic glaciers in Alaska to spectacular reefs in the Caribbean. Our "Cultural" tours allow customers to experience local customs, entertainment and culinary delights ranging from tribal dances in Alaska to an outstanding local meal in Santorini, Greece. Our "Active" tours offer a multitude of exciting and adventurous ways to experience our destinations. Our customers can kayak the turquoise waters of the Caribbean, hike to a spectacular waterfall in Hawaii, or bicycle through quaint villages in France.
